There are going to be quite a few breakout stars when the FIFA World Cup arrives at Levi’s Stadium and around North America in June, but one local artist is already enjoying a breakout “World Cup” moment.
LeRoid David, a San Francisco native has been an illustrator and graphic design artist
for many years, always looking for a breakout moment.
That moment happened when his design was chosen as the official 2026 FIFA, World Cup, San Francisco Bay Area Host City poster.
The design includes vivid, iconic Bay Area imagery, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, a touch of Silicon Valley and Levi’s.
“To this very day, I still get pretty emotional because, you know, I’ve always dreamt of doing sports art in my life, and I’d never thought of doing anything as big as FIFA World Cup,” David said.
The impact of the success on the World Cup stage still has him in awe: his poster is now for sale on the official FIFA World Cup website, and he became an instant attraction at fan Fests and FIFA events.
“It’s such a surreal feeling and the weirdest feeling but at the same time. It just feels so great to be out in public and, you know, just seeing folks enjoying the poster coming up, coming up to me, and me, having me sign them… it’s insane,” he said.
And the momentum keeps growing; he was just chosen to design the San Francisco Giants special uniform for Filipino heritage day in September.
“Which is amazing, and with everything happening this year, FIFA World Cup and then the San Francisco Giants… I’m just, you know, very blessed to be given these opportunities and I hope to continue more of it,” he said.
David’s artistic success will continue well into the future and for now, he’s riding the wave and it’s a wave that will last at least another hundred days.
