SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie took to social media Wednesday to tout the city’s progress when it comes to moving people off the street. Since December, the number of tents and structures has continued to drop slightly from 162 in December to 155 in February.  Also in F ebruary, the city’s “journey home” program connected 44 people with loved ones outside the city. San Francisco is also seeing a more significant drop in people living in RVs.  That’s down 20% from 462 in December to 374 in February. And 47 vehicle households have moved from RVs to housing.  Longtime Berkeley spot known for potato puffs opening first outpost in San Francisco “Our goal is to get people to a safer, healthier, more appropriate place for themselves in their lives, and whether that is in a shelter, housing, treatment, back connected to family, where they have system support,” said Mary Ellen Carroll, the head of the S.F. Department of Emergency Management. But homeless advocates remain dissatisfied. “What I look at, when I look at these numbers, is a lot of disappointment," said Jennifer Friedenbach, the executive director of the San Francisco Coalition on Homelessness. Friedenbach says there are still too many vehicles being towed compared with those being housed, and she says the city remains too focused on criminalizing homelessness.  “We really want to see the administration focus on addressing homelessness in a real way, where they're moving people, and there's, you know, coordinated plans for each person who's experiencing homelessness and a pathway off the streets,” Friedenbach said.   “And that means an investment in prevention and keeping San Franciscans housed.
