CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man has died due to his injuries after an apartment fire broke out on the first day of February in Chesterfield County, which injured other people and killed three dogs. Officials said the man died due to his injuries on Tuesday, March 3. This comes after Chest erfield County Fire and EMS crews responded to a call in the morning on Sunday, Feb. 1, for an apartment fire in the 11400 block of Dunbrook Road. When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from an apartment building and fire inside a second-story unit. While fighting the fire, crews found three victims who were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The man who died on March 3 was one of those three victims. Officials said a Chesterfield Police officer was also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Three dogs were reportedly killed in the fire. The damage from the fire was contained to one apartment, according to officials.
