CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 56-year-old Doswell man was arrested in North Carolina on Tuesday following a coordinated investigation with Caroline County authorities that resulted in the seizure of about one kilogram of cocaine and 1/4 pound of suspected marijuana. On Monday, March 2, the Carol ine County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit learned that a 56-year-old man, of Hanover County's Doswell area, was allegedly traveling to Atlanta to obtain a significant amount of cocaine that investigators believed he intended to sell within the county. Caroline's narcotics investigators immediately began traveling south and coordinating surveillance efforts, per the sheriff's office. Investigators then reached out to partners with the North Carolina Highway Patrol Criminal Interdiction Unit. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 3, the North Carolina authorities, along with the Caroline Sheriff's Office, decided to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle believed to be driven by Folly in Granville County, N.C. Authorities believe Folly was returning along Interstate 85. During the stop, a former sheriff's office Narcotics K-9 Duke helped to check for controlled substances inside the vehicle, where authorities later found one kilogram of suspected cocaine and about 1/4 pound of suspected marijuana, officials said. Folly was arrested and charged in North Carolina with felony possession of marijuana, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony trafficking in cocaine by possession and felony trafficking in cocaine by transportation. He is currently being held at the Granville County Detention Facility on a $750,000 secured bond. Additional charges are expected in Caroline County. “This case highlights the strength of professional relationships built over years of collaboration," said Sheriff Scott Moser in a press release. "Our investigators did not hesitate to travel, coordinate across state lines, and utilize trusted partnerships to stop a significant quantity of illegal drugs from entering our community. Seeing K-9 Duke play such a critical role in this case made it even more meaningful for our team.” ...read more read less
