EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — An Evansville man was arrested in connection with a home invasion that happened in western Vanderburgh County.
On February 20, an elderly woman reported that she was followed into her home by an man who threatened her with a knife and demanded money. The intruder,
30-year-old Minh Quang Ton, took the victims wallet and fled the scene.
After speaking with the victim, deputies believed that she had been followed home. Using the Flock camera system, they were able to find the victims car as she drove to Walmart and back.
Using the same camera system, deputies found a car that followed the victim into the Walmart parking lot, stayed in the parking lot while she was in the store, and then followed her home.
The camera system provided the license plate number of that car that followed the victim. This allowed deputies to identify Ton as a suspect. The camera system was also used to find Ton in real time driving on the road.
Deputies interviewed Ton where he admitted to robbing the victim but denied using a knife. Although, he said he frequently carried one. Ton also did not provide a specific motive for the robbery.
A search of Ton’s car found several knives and stolen property from multiple vehicle break-ins.
Ton was arrested on burglary and robbery charges and is currently jailed at the Vanderburgh County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
