IHOP has declared National Pancake Day to be the first Tuesday of March, which means that it’s on March 3 this year. That’s apparently controversial to some other pancake-based brands. On the newly declared National Pancake Day, IHOP will celebrate by inviting guests to stop by participating IHOP locations nationwide to enjoy a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. While short stacks can be enjoyed for free around the country, this year, one specific IHOP location is having its own “British invasion” by collaborating with musician and online personality, Mr. Fantasy. Customers who pull up IRL to IHOP’s Hollywood restaurant at 7006 Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California, on Tuesday, March 3, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. PST will have what is likely to be a very unique fan-based event. “Since my arrival to L.A, IHOP pancakes have been my ‘GO TO’ breakfast. I was absolutely gobsmacked when they asked to team up for National Pancake Day,” said Mr. Fantasy, who is rumored to be “Riverdale” actor KJ Apa. Given that Apa frequents diners quite often enough that it’s been covered in print more than once, Apa — or rather Mr. Fantasy — could be telling the truth about his breakfast habit. I can’t wait to meetup and share some fluffy stacks of deliciousness,” Fantasy continued. “Because nothing, I repeat, NOTHING, hits like pancakes with your favorite people. Love You.” A debate over which day is actually Pancake Day Last month, a representative for Krusteaz said that IHOP’s upcoming pancake holiday was incorrect, stating that there must have “been a mix up on which official day is National Pancake Day,” and noted that the pancake mix company likes “to stick to what’s recorded.” Most companies that offer pancakes or pancake mix celebrate the griddle-baked item on Shrove Tuesday, the day before the faithful give up vice for Lent. Way back when, that meant eggs, milk and flour, all of which come together to make pancake batter. “Fans shouldn’t have to wait to celebrate pancakes until March 3,” the company noted prior to Shrove Tuesday. Other pancake-based companies, both large and small, stuck to the original holiday. Luckily for us, IHOP is doing its own thing as well. This story first appeared on TODAY.com.
