The Bazaar by José Andrés will close its location in the Waldorf Astoria on Pennsylvania Avenue on March 11, just over three years after its splashy debut. In its place, José Andrés Group will open theatrical steakhouse Bazaar Meat later this month. Bazaar Meat already has locations in Chicago, Las Vegas, and New York—plus others coming to Miami and Los Angeles this year—but this will be the first outpost in DC. The opening will mark the return of a steakhouse to the historic Old Post Office Building, which previously housed BLT Prime when it was the Trump International Hotel. The menu will feature large-format cuts, such as ribeye “chuleton,” bone-in New York strip, and a selection of Japanese wagyu. That said, Bazaar Meat is far from the average steakhouse. Expect Spanish-style whole suckling pig and a jamón bar, plus signatures like cotton candy foie gras, caviar cones, and an avant-garde take on the Philly cheesesteak. There will also be a raw bar and plenty of other seafood and vegetable offerings. A tasting menu will be available too. The drink menu will include a freezer martini, “Ben Franklin’s Milk Punch,” and “Stamp Collector Sazerac” nodding to the Old Post Office’s history. Wines will center on Spanish producers, plus local bottles from Virginia and Maryland.
