Park City Opera seeks individuals for administrative and backstage roles
Mar 02, 2026
The Park City Opera seeks thoughtful, eager and community collaborators to help strengthen its dedication to the local arts and culture scene.
The company, which made its world-premiere with Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” last autumn, is now hiring more than 12 creative and administrati
ve part-time roles, said Executive Director Lena Goldstein.
“These roles range from lighting, costume and project designers to an administrative assistant and front-of-house and stage managers,” she said. “These roles have an integral part in shaping the kind of experience audiences would like to have while attending an opera in Park City during the summer.”
Park City Opera plans to perform two full-length productions this season — Aaron Copland’s “The Tender Land,” July 18 and 19 at Temple Har Shalom and Charles Gounod’s “Romeo et Juliette” Aug. 21 and 23 at the Eccles Center for the Performing Arts.
Both performances will be directed by Lisl Wangermann, the company’s development director, and conducted by Benjamin Beckman, the company’s artistic director.
Certain jobs offered are specific to each production and will start immediately, Goldstein said.
“We are in the design phase of our productions,” she said. “So the scenic designer role for ‘Roméo et Juliette’ would start this week, and we envision the lighting-designer position and other positions will work hand-in-hand with the creative team before rehearsals begin before ‘The Tender Lands’ in June and ‘Romeo’ in July.”
Other roles, including front-of-house manager, the administrative assistant and the summer intern, will last all summer, Goldstein said.
“Not only will the front-of-house manager help train ushers and manage the patron experience at the productions, but they will also work at our free and public performances at City Park with Mountain Town Music and any other concert series,” she said.
All employees will be paid, including the summer intern, according to Goldstein.
“This is a paid internship opportunity for someone who is looking for experience in marketing, live-performance operations and planning and other administrative tasks,” she said. “It’s a great opportunity for students interested in music or a career in the arts. It’s also great for students who like data science or event production.”
Most of the jobs are perfect for full-time or part-time Parkites or Utahns, Goldstein said.
“We want to hire local workers as much as possible, and administrative assistants, summer interns, front-of-house manger and several stage hands, can be high schoolers or college students who are home during the summer,” she said. “Stage hands are ad-hoc positions for those who have never been backstage at a theater or who are really interested in how sets are constructed or move. So, they are good for high school students who have done some work as stagehand.”
Although Park City Opera would love to fill most of the roles with local residents, it has cast a wide net across the country to find those who are experienced in live theater, Goldstein said.
“We anticipate hiring individuals who have worked in theater and in a variety of venues,” she said.
All job descriptions and qualifications are listed on parkcityopera.org/employment.
“The way we’ve set up our application portal is that it’s a single application form for any and all roles of interest,” Goldstein said. “So, it’s a single resume and interest upload, and we’ve seen that most applicants have applied for multiple roles. So hopefully it’s a light load in terms of applying itself.”
In addition to the part-time paid positions, Park City Opera seeks volunteers, Goldstein said.
“Those opportunities are always ongoing and are open to folks who are interested in joining our team to volunteer at the productions or to house out-of-town artists,” she said.
Volunteer opportunities are listed at parkcityopera.org/individual-support.
“Park City Opera is artist friendly and supportive to artists who are embarking on this specific and highly challenging career,” Goldstein said. “We want to hire those who are driven collaborators because initiative is important to us. We believe every individual can help contribute to the bigger picture of building a lasting home for opera in Park City.”
On a personal note, Goldstein is grateful Park City Opera has expanded to the point of being able to hire new help.
“The greatest personal joy of building this company in Park City to me is to work with thoughtful collaborators who also care deeply about the cultural fabric of Park City,” she said.
