POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Spring is nearly here, and some of Virginia's delicate woodland wildflowers have begun blooming. Visitors at Powhatan State Park can view their blooms along a park ranger-led hike on Saturday. The ranger-led hike will follow Gold Dust Trail in Powhatan State Park from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 7. According to the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), the park ranger will note a few different ephemeral flower species and highlight the role they play in the forest ecosystem. Organizers added that attendees can also get an up-close view of the flowers with the park's handheld microscope and magnifying glasses. In addition, visitors can try their hand at identifying wildflowers along the way by using the Seek app by iNaturalist. The walk is about 1.5 miles long and will be taken at a relaxed pace, according to DCR. Registration is recommended, but not required.
