High school girls wrestling: Perry’s Cornwell, Dominish highlight Euclid Sectional area results
Mar 01, 2026
Perry’s Abby Cornwell and GG Dominish were both on the state podium a season ago. The duo have their eyes on the top step of the podium this year, and the journey began at the Euclid Sectional on March 1.
The pair spent a combined seven minutes on the mat, recording seven pins and winning individu
al titles at 110 and 115 pounds, respectively. The Pirates finished third as a team with 117 points.
In Dominish’s three matches, none left the first period. After placing third in the state at 105 last season, she knows that the sectional tournament is the perfect place to fine-tune her game plan.
“It’s honestly cleaning stuff up for us,” Dominish said. “I’ve missed some time, I know Abby has missed some time, it’s just having everything down that we want to work. And then having things that we can work to chain wrestle.”

Cornwell followed a similar formula, exemplified by her final with Ahnai Welchans of Kirtland. Cornwell worked several different shots but wasn’t able to record a takedown in the opening period.
But in the second, she got in on a double leg and as Welchans turned to her belly, Cornwell caught an arm and hooked in a wing that led to the fall.
“This year I’ve noticed a lot more of putting moves together as well,” Cornwell said. “It’s not just learning moves, how to wrestle but how to use your mind in the sport. It’s the biggest tool in the sport and learning how to use that has been huge.”
Perry added two other district qualifiers in the Kutscher sisters. Eva was second at 235, while Emily was third at 170.
The Pirates’ wrestling room is no secret to success, but the growth of the girls side of the sport is their most recent accomplishment. The boys’ wrestlers are welcoming to the girls and are as excited about their success as their own.
“It makes it feel so much more like a family,” Cornwell said. “There’s always so much support. Everyone gets along and we understand each other’s feelings. We’re all in there working toward one goal. Working together and helping each other stay in those positive mindsets is great and .”
Dominish added: “We had several new girls join, and the JV boys have been working with us as well as we’re all getting better. It’s the freshmen going with each other a lot. There’s a good back-and-forth relationship between the teams.”
Riverside freshman London Davis also made an impact in her first sectional at 120.
The Beaver came in 22-7 on the season and recorded a pin in her quarterfinal in a mad scramble with Columbia’s Jianna Gray.
It was a vast difference in her semifinal match with Wellington’s Rylee Kolmorgen. Davis created several takedowns and cradles to pick up the win.
Her ability to refocus and compartmentalize between matches shows maturity that she has learned in the wrestling room and from her brother, Riverside 120 wrestler Kamuri Jordan.
“I knew I could’ve wrestled a lot better in my first match,” Davis said. “I went into my second match really wanting it. Kamuri was critiquing me after that first match. It’s fun knowing that you’re going into it with a bunch of hard workers. It’s my second year as a wrestler and the room has helped me improve very quickly.”
She went on to win her championship match by injury default.
Lake Catholic’s Kaila Gridiron (105) and Harvey’s Giselle Moreno (190) also won individual titles at their weights.
Also amond the qualifiers were Harvey’s Sophia Turner (170, 2nd) and Natalya Nila (100, 3rd), Lake Catholic’s Laila Gridiron (120, 2nd) and Nevaeh Hibbard (115, 4th), Beachwood’s Brooklyn Pryor (135, 2nd) and Mya Webb (105, 3rd), Euclid’s Denim Wilkerson (190, 4th), Riverside’s Lizette Rodriguez (105, 4th), North’s Temperence Martinez (115, 3rd) and Chagrin Falls’ Savannah Brent (145, 4th).
