The Seton High School basketball team is a district champion for the first time since 1988."I couldn't be more proud of this team," Seton coach Scott Smith said. "Winning a district title means a lot to our program, especially k nowing it's the first one for Seton High School since 1988. For this group to be the one to bring it back is incredibly special and a big step in continuing to build a strong program."The Saints defeated Miamisburg 60-29 in a Division II district final Saturday afternoon at Fairborn High School.We are very proud of the effort and determination of this team, Seton athletic director Wendy Smith said.Its always rewarding to see the girls and coaches hard work pay off especially since its been so long since weve taken home a district championship.Seton (21-3), which has won five consecutive games, advances to play Winton Woods (18-6) in a Division II regional semifinal March 3 at Princeton. The winner advances to the regional final March 7 at Princeton. Winton Woods defeated Little Miami in another Division II district final on Saturday in Mason.Seton senior Aubri Korfhagen scored a team-leading 16 points for the Saints in Saturdays win over Miamisburg.Senior Lauren Bain (11 points) and junior Marissa Hunt (10 points) were among other statistical leaders for Seton."The district championship is a testament to the hard work and commitment these players and coaches have shown all season," Smith said. "They've trusted the process, supported one another and competed with heart every single day. They earned this."Smith said the team has enjoyed how the school community has rallied around the players and coaches this season."There's a lot of positive momentum around Seton right now and it's exciting for our program to be able to contribute to that energy," Smith said. "You can feel the pride in the hallways and in the stands. Our players feed off that support."Greater Cincinnati won two Division II district finals in Fairborn on Saturday.
