NFL scouting combine attracts football prospects and city revenues
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — IU quarterback Fernando Mendoza went to the iconic St. Elmo Steak House on Thursday night, as he is in Indianapolis for the NFL Combine, and the Hoosier legend was greeted kindly, to say the least.
The
entire restaurant stood clapping as Mendoza walked through the famous restaurant.
St. Elmo has become a staple during the NFL Combine, with NFL coaches and staff members going to the restaurant throughout the week every year.
Thursday was not the first time Mendoza went to St. Elmo. Mendoza and the IU offensive line went up to Indianapolis before camp started in the fall to the legendary restaurant.
Mendoza helped lead IU to its first ever football national championship. The Hoosiers completed an undefeated, 16-0 season, beating Miami in the national championship game in January.
Mendoza won numerous awards, including the Heisman Trophy. He is projected to be a top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Mendoza threw for 3,535 yards and a nation-leading 41 touchdowns in the 2025 season. He also had seven rushing touchdowns.
