A message to these knowledgeable Trenton Central High School boys basketball fans who intended to stay for the entire Colonial Valley Conference Tournament championship game between the Tornadoes and Notre Dame High Fighting Irish — Get a life.
Surely, laundry needed attention or a departure would
have allowed for last-minute preparations for the area’s next round of snow. Plus, Duke and Michigan men’s basketball teams were a half hour away from throwing down, but these guys sat through a 83-48 Trenton rout.
NJSIAA Tournament started Thursday. Can Tornadoes claim the first boys basketball championship since 1961? Wait. What? 65 years.

Demolition of St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton continues without hesitation. A $20 million project estimated to need up to 18 months seems ahead of schedule. The structure in the background (left) is main building on Hamilton Ave. across street from Trenton Central High School in the seven-acre complex. Still, no information on redevelopment for the Trinity Health-owned property.

This gifted hyacinth on my kitchen windowsill delivers an intense sweet scent. Speaking of flowers, The PHS Philadelphia Flower Show runs Feb. 28-March 8 just as warm temps arrive. Purchased the above plant holder at the 48th annual St. George Greek Festival last May. Approximately ten weeks away from the best Greek celebration in New Jersey.

The Lit Brothers Building at 8th and Market Street still delivers a wow factor. The building is a collection of structures unified by a Renaissance Revival style, featuring classical arch windows, terra cotta, and cast-iron facades, making it a unique landmark.
Passing by the historical landmark last week recovered memories of rare but special trips into Philly. Country kids in a bustling city. We always held hopes of eating at Horn Hardart Automat. A sandwich or slice of pie inside a machine. How cool?
Lit Brothers Department store competed opposite Wanamaker’s, Macy’s, Gimbels, Strawbridge Clothier, plus others. The store closed in 1977 due to financial difficulties.
