Four people are recovering after police say an alleged drunk driver backed his car into a Kaufman McDonald’s. Two employees were among the injured.    One was rushed by ambulance to the hospital. “The last thing I remember me saying is, he’s parked kind of funny,” said Keira Boyd. Boyd and Madeline Nauman Santos were sitting in a booth between their shifts on Wednesday afternoon when the car plowed through the restaurant wall. “All of a sudden he starts backing out speeding,” said Boyd. “The last I heard was, ‘Lookout!’ And then I heard a big explosion and everything just went white, and then I remember I saw blood and the first thing I did was army crawl,” said Nauman Santos. After crashing into the building, Kaufman Police say the driver took off. Officers spotted him soon after and they say he led them on a short chase before he was pulled over and detained. Police charged 28-year-old Luis Soto with four counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle, criminal mischief, evading arrest and driving while intoxicated. “Maybe he should’ve just stayed home. You know, not be drinking around. You put everybody at risk. Was that really all worth it?” said Nauman Santos. “Yeah, was it worth putting four people in harm’s way?” said Boyd. The coworkers and soon-to-be sisters-in-law say Soto had just left the restaurant and that staff was trying to call 911 at the time of the crash. While the restaurant reopened today with boarded-up windows, the women are taking time to recover. In a social media post, the owners shared: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to them…At this time, our top priority is the safety for our crew and customers.” Boyd suffered heavy bruising and cut her hand as she shielded herself. Nauman Santos took the brunt of the impact. “They said that my nose is fractured from the top point. I have a black eye. I can kind of barely open and see this one. There are 19 stitches, four at the bottom and 15 on the top,” she said. She also suffered facial fractures, which doctors tell her will eventually need to be surgically repaired. Both women say there’s some relief knowing the man who police say is responsible is behind bars. “It’s I feel like it’s very good that he gets held accountable for what he’s done. I think it’s very important,” said Boyd. ...read more read less
