The individual portion of the New Jersey boys high school wrestling season gets underway on Saturday with 32 districts around the state. Colonial Valley Conference teams will compete in five different districts. Seven of them will be at District 21 with Steinert, Nottingham, Lawrence, Notre Dame, Ro bbinsville and Trenton all headed to Christian Brothers. District 23 at Monroe includes Ewing, Hamilton and Hightstown, while District 19 at Hunterdon Central also has three CVC teams with Princeton, West Windsor North and West Windsor South in the field. Hopewell Valley will compete in District 20 at Matawan and Allentown is in District 24 at Pt. Pleasant Boro. The only defending district champion from the CVC is Lawrence 132-pounder Steven Ham, who takes a glittering 38-0 record into the so-called “second season.” The top three in each weight will advance to regions the following week. Districts 19 and 20 are part of Region 5 at Franklin, while survivors from districts 21, 23 and 24 will go to Region 6 at Jackson Township. DISTRICT  19 Site: Hunterdon Central. Teams: Franklin, Hunterdon Central, Manville, Montgomery, Old Bridge, Princeton, Rumson-Fair Haven, South Hunterdon, West Windsor North, West Windsor South. Outlook: This is a formidable district with Manville (32-1 in dual matches), Group 5 dual match finalist Old Bridge and Group 2 state champion Rumson-Fair Haven ready to battle for the team title. It will be slim pickings here for Mercer wrestlers, although West Windsor North’s Syum Ray (21-7 at 113) and CVC Championships winner Anderson Reyes (29-3 at 144) are threats to qualify for regions. DISTRICT 20 Site: Matawan Teams: Delaware Valley, East Brunswick, Hopewell Valley, Matawan, Middletown North, North Brunswick, South Brunswick, South River, Spotswood. Outlook: Delaware Valley just completed a 24-0 season, but is really more of a dominant dual match team as opposed to tournaments. Expect Middletown North to make a lot of noise and Hopewell Valley to come in third. Hopewell Valley’s outstanding freshman Parker Humphrey (30-5) is No. 1 at 126 and senior teammate Dylan Hersh (32-2) heads up the 132 bracket.  Hopewell’s second seeds are Max Pollara (25-8) at 157 and Scott Mangan (30-4) at 190. DISTRICT 21 Site: Christian Brothers. Teams: Christian Brothers, Steinert, Nottingham, Holy Cross, Jackson Township, Lawrence, Notre Dame, Riverside, Robbinsville, Trenton. Outlook: There’s some rugged competition in this district. Host CBA was a Non-Public A group finalist and figures to once again win a bunch of weights. Jackson is also strong. Still, if the seeding holds up there will be lots of highlights for the locals as Lawrence has three No. 1 seeds and Robbinsville has two. No. 1 seeds for Robbinsville’s are Alexander Viscido (31-2 at 106) and Vincent Grippa (26-8 at 113). For Lawrence, Ham (38-0), James Lyons (33-4 at 190) and Zane Spencer (29-2 at heavyweight) sit atop their brackets. Receiving second seeds were Robbinsville’s Lucas Messinger (24-10 at 120) and Tyler Shane (29-5 at 175), and Notre Dame’s Ivan Yultuklhovskyi (36-2 at 215). DISTRICT 23 Site: Monroe. Teams: Bordentown/Florence, Brick Memorial, Burlington City, Burlington Township, Ewing, Hamilton, Hightstown, Monroe, Northern Burlington, Ocean Township. Outlook: Group 3 state finalist Brick Memorial and Ocean head up a district that has only one top seed from Mercer County. He is Hightstown 190-pounder Jacob Kramer, who sports a 31-5 record. Seeded second are Hightstown’s Chris Florian  (32-3 at 120), Hamilton’s Carlos Rueda (25-8 at 175) and Ewing’s Cephus Horton (23-5 at heavyweight). There should be some highlights for Burlington County at this district as well. Northern Burlington’s Justin Marcello (26-6) is the top seed at 144. Second seeds include Northern Burlington’s Jason Marasco (26-5 at 126) and Bordentown/Florence’s undefeated Joseph Hartz (33-0) at 150.  Marasco is the son of former Nottingham coach Jason Marasco. DISTRICT 24 Site: Pt. Pleasant Boro. Teams: Allentown, Freehold Boro, Freehold Township, Pt. Pleasant Boro, Lakewood, Long Branch, Manalapan, Monmouth Regional, New Egypt, Seton Hall. Outlook: Host Pt. Boro and Seton Hall will battle it out for the team title. It hasn’t been the best of years for Allentown, but the Redbirds do have three high seeds with the freshmen Baldino brothers and Nathaniel Geddis.  Dominic Baldino is seeded second at 106 with a 26-9 record and Vincenzo Baldino sits on top of the 113 bracket with a 30-7 mark. Geddis, meanwhile, is  also a top seed with a 24-11 record at 175. ...read more read less
