The Washington Spirit’s new uniforms, unveiled today, are inspired DC’s iconic cherry blossoms. The “Spirit in Bloom” design overlays the National Women Soccer League club’s signature Spirit Green with cheerful pink and white florals. Spirit Director of Operations Ben Berczek first came up with the idea for cherry blossom-themed unis. As the team’s former “kit man”—that is, equipment manager—he knew that players and fans alike had been wanting a blossom-based look for years. This isn’t DC’s first sports team with a cherry blossom jersey design. The Washington Wizards donned bright pink uniforms for their 2022-23 season. The uniform’s design was inspired by how the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers split to form the shape of DC around Audi Field, Berczek says. It took multiple pitches, iterations, and feedback rounds with team members and other stakeholders to finalize the look. “A lot of the players have had positive feedback, especially now that the kit is coming together with the sponsors, shorts, and socks,” says Berczek. “They’re super excited to wear them this season.” CVS Health is the team’s front-of-kit partner for the fifth consecutive season—the longest such deal length in the NWSL—and frankly, you can’t miss it: the brand name is in bright pink on the front of every jersey, matching the blossoms dotting the rest of the uniform. The Spirit were among the best teams in the league last year, finishing second in the regular season and losing in the postseason championship match to NJ/NY Gotham FC. Star forward Trinity Rodman—who just signed a historic contract in January, making her the highest-paid women’s soccer player in the world—helped lead the team, which is among the NWSL’s early favorites heading into the 2026 season.
