INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two crashes in Shelby and Monroe counties on Wednesday and Thursday resulted in at least three deaths and four others hospitalized. Monroe County The crash in Perry Township, Indiana, just southwest of I-69 happened around 6:16 p.m. Wednesday. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says a Subaru driving near South Rockport Road at West Stansifer Court suddenly crossed the center line, crashing head-on with a southbound Kia. A third vehicle, a Toyota, also became involved in the crash. The Kia driver, a 74-year-old Bloomington woman, died at the scene. Her name has not been released. The drivers of the two other vehicles and a 7-year-old passenger in the Subaru, were rushed to hospitals for treatment. The child sustained serious injuries, while the Toyota driver only received minor injuries. The colliding driver’s condition was not clear. The road was closed for several hours while investigators were at the scene. The cause of the crash was not immediately known. Shelby County The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department reported on the crash in the southern part of the county Thursday morning. Deputies were called to the area near County Road 600 South, west of State Road 9, around 7:45 a.m. Thursday. There, they learned that a van and a delivery truck crashed head-on. One person inside the van died, while the other van occupant and the delivery truck driver were taken to hospitals for treatment.
