For the record: The Tigers have relied on super-stingy defense and strong guard play to win their first two tournament games. Next up is the top seed in the region — a Crestview team whose only losses are to Laurel and LaBrae. Chagrin is led by junior guard Avery Russell, who averages 18.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game with more than 60 3-pointers made. Fellow guards Abby Kay and Gabby Byrne and forward Olivia Kruse combine for 20 more points per game. Crestview senior Addison Rhodes is a bona fide star. She is averaging 31.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 3.5 assists per game. With more than 2,100 career points, she’s the all-time leading scorer in both the program and in Columbiana County. The Tigers’ defensive focus starts with her.
