Grandfathers for Golf plans Memorial Tourney fundraiser in San Jacinto

Grandfathers for Golf, a nonprofit based in Hemet and San Jacinto that offers free golf lessons for children, will hold its 16th annual Memorial Tourney fundraiser March 13 at Soboba Springs Golf Course in San Jacinto.
The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., and the four-person scr
amble format is open to golfers of any skill level, according to a news release from Grandfathers for Golf.
Cost is $150 per person, or $500 per foursome if paid by March 1, and is tax deductible.
Golfers can pay in advance with credit cards, Zelle or checks.

To pay by check, made out to Grandfathers for Golf, mail checks to Grandfathers, PO Box 1818, Hemet, CA 92546. Mail postmarked before March 1 qualifies for $500-per-foursome discount, according to the news release.
Entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, food and trophies for first, second and third places as well as for long drive and closest-to-the-pin contests.
Women and those 70 and older may play from the silver senior tees. All others play from the blue tees.
The field is limited to 144 players, and those who sign up as individuals will be placed with a foursome.
The Memorial Tourney, formerly the Marty Finn Memorial, is Grandfathers for Golf’s only annual fundraiser.
The nonprofit is a volunteer organization, with no salaries for organizers and no fees charged to students in the program.

Grandfathers for Golf has been operating for more than 20 years in the Hemet-San Jacinto area, teaching golf to hundreds of children. In addition to golf lessons, Grandfathers for Golf gives every participant a golf bag, clubs, golf balls and uniform, according to the news release.
