Purdue University expands athletic training program to Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Purdue University’s athletic training program is expanding with a new Master of Science in athletic training degree at the Indianapolis location.
The new program will start in the fall semester with 25 to 30 students. The Purdue Department of Health and Kinesiology w
ill hire three faculty members to be based in Indianapolis.
The Purdue athletic training program has given students opportunities to work with high-level athletic programs at Purdue. In Indianapolis, those opportunities have the potential to grow with the NCAA headquarters near by Purdue University in Indianapolis. There are also professional sports opportunities in the form of the Indianapolis Colts, Indianapolis Indians, Indiana Fever, and Indiana Pacers, the university said in a news release issued Tuesday.
Scott Lawrance, a health and kinesiology clinical professor and director of athletic training education at Purdue, in a statement, “Indianapolis offers additional areas that we can work in and access to sites and places that we just can’t use on a day-to-day basis here in West Lafayette.”
Li-Shan Chou, professor and department head of health and kinesiology, said in a statement, “I think our job is to educate the residents from the state and allow them to have a better future down the road. So, this kind of development in Indianapolis really provides us those tools and enhances our contribution back to the state.”
