Indiana House passes bill for Chicago Bears stadium authority
Feb 24, 2026
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Senate bill proposing the creation of a stadium authority for a new Chicago Bears stadium in Hammond, Indiana, passed the House Tuesday, 95 – 4.
The bill, SB 27, first passed out of the Senate Ways and Means committee unanimously, 24 – 0, on Thursday. Several
representatives chimed, “Go Bears!” as they submitted their vote.
If signed into law, the bill would create the Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority, which would be capable of financing a multibillion-dollar, 35-year lease deal for a new NFL stadium.
SB 27 moves back to the Senate due to changes made by the House.
Illinois was still in negotiations with the Bears to build a stadium in Arlington Heights, but a meeting set Thursday morning to discuss the Illinois stadium authority was canceled for an unspecified reason.
This is a developing story.
