Jazz concert
*Thursday, Feb. 26: Willamette University is hosting a free night of jazz music, featuring its vocal group the Willamette Singers, small ensembles and the Willamette Jazz Collective. The “high-energy” concert will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Hudson Concert Hall, which is located at 297 12th St. S.E. The show goes until 9 p.m.
Rug tufting workshop
Saturday, Feb. 28: The downtown craft space CreativiTee will host a rug tufting workshop. The class, led by Rugs U Tuft, will walk participants through the rug-making process step-by-step. Each participant can make a medium, 19 inches by 19 inches rug with a design. No experience is required. The class runs 6-8:30 p.m. Registration is $100 per person, and can be done online. The shop is at 110 Commercial St. N.E.
Roller derby game
Saturday, Feb. 28: Cherry City Roller Derby is hosting two matches on Saturday. The first starts at 4:30 p.m., and the second starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 online, $15 at the door. A family pass costs $30 ahead of time, or $35 at the door. Children under 5 years old get in free. There will also be food and drink available for purchase. The game will also be livestreamed for free, here.
Clay workshop
Sunday, March 1: The Willamette Art Center will have two drop-in clay workshops on how to make textured hand prints or chicken plates. The early class, which has a simpler project and quiet environment, teaches textured hand prints from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. The second class teaching chicken plates runs 12-3 p.m. Each class is $5 per guest. The studio is at 3995 Fairview Industrial Dr. S.E., Suite 100.
Open mic night
*Tuesday, March 3: The Grand Theatre will host an open mic night for musicians, poets and performers of all kinds. The event is hosted by Matador Hamilton and Danny Shaw, members of the local band Giantess. The mic night falls on the first Tuesday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and people can sign up starting then. The show runs 7-10 p.m. No admission fee is required. The event is open to all ages. The theater is at 191 High St. N.E.Have a news tip?
