A blizzard continues to pound New Haven and the region Monday. Mayor Justin Elicker sent out the following email/text alert at noon with details on what’s happened so far and what’s yet to come. Hi, this is Mayor Justin Elicker with a Monday midday update for New Haven residents about th e blizzard and the city’s snow operations.  So far, the city has experienced over 16 inches of total snowfall and counting. Snow is forecast to fall throughout the afternoon, strong wind gusts will remain through the early evening, and the temperatures will feel like it’s in the low single digits.  Our snow crews and plows have been working 24/7, but given the size and duration of the storm and the amount of total snowfall, this will take a significant amount of time for our crews to clear the city’s 800+ roads.  Folks should be prepared to hunker down and stay at home for some time. Please stay off the roads and don’t crowd the plows.  When the snow lets up this afternoon, please be a good neighbor and shovel your sidewalks and street corners so there is a path at least 3 feet wide to ensure wheelchair and stroller access. Please also give the fire department a helping hand by shoveling at least 3 feet around any fire hydrants outside your home, so that they can access them quickly in the event of an emergency. Citations will be given out to those who do not shovel their properties.   For life-threatening emergencies, always call 911. For other time-sensitive, snow-related concerns or questions, call the city’s Emergency Operations Center at 203-946-8221. Our Emergency Operations Center is staffed with representatives from various city departments and partner organizations throughout the duration of the storm to respond to pressing issues.  Thanks, everyone, for your patience and cooperation. This is a big storm — we’re going to keep at and get through it together.  The post Storm Keeps Storming appeared first on New Haven Independent. ...read more read less
