A 61-year-old man died earlier this month from injuries he sustained during an unreported hit-and-run on Forbes Avenue.
The New Haven Police Department (NHPD) posted a press release on the social media site X on Sunday about the pedestrian fatality and police investigation.
The press release
states that, on Feb. 13, the East Haven Police Department began an investigation into a “suspicious death” that had been reported to them by Yale New Haven Hospital.
The East Haven police determined that Dominic Landolfi, 61, had arrived in East Haven via a CT Transit bus on Feb. 11. (Landolfi’s obituary identifies him as an East Haven resident; the NHPD’s press release identifies him as a New Haven resident.)
Upon arriving in East Haven on Feb. 11, Landolfi “required medical attention and was transported to YNHH by ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries.”
Based on an initial investigation, “it appears Landolfi was struck by a vehicle … on Forbes Avenue in New Haven prior to boarding the bus; the vehicle left the scene and has not yet been located. There were no calls to the New Haven Police Department regarding this incident.”
New Haven’s Accident Reconstruction Team was assigned the case on Feb. 18; thy are actively investigating.
Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have information valuable to investigators to call detectives at 203-946-6304 or through the department’s anonymous tip line at 866-888-8477.
Landolfi’s obituary states that he is survived by his son, grandson, stepmother, and sister. He also leaves behind three nieces, his nephew, and his dog, Monster.
