Winter Reminds Us It’s Not Done Yet After a brief taste of milder weather last week, winter made a quick return across central and eastern Kentucky today. Temperatures struggled to climb out of the upper 20s, and on-and-off snow showers stuck with us through much of the day. Some of those snow showers were briefly heavier at times, especially across the Bluegrass region, putting down a light coating of snow in spots. While accumulations stayed minor for most, it was a good reminder that we’re still very much in winter mode. Snow Showers Taper Tonight, But the Cold Sticks Around Snow showers will continue to slowly wind down through the late evening and overnight hours, with most areas drying out by early Monday morning. The northeastern parts of Kentucky may hold onto a few lingering flurries a bit longer as cold northwest winds continue to funnel in moisture off the Great Lakes. Winds will stay breezy overnight, making it feel even colder than the thermometer shows. By Monday morning, temperatures will drop into the upper teens and low 20s, with wind chills dipping into the single digits at times. A Warming Trend Builds Through Midweek The good news? This colder stretch doesn’t last long. By Tuesday, winds shift to the southwest and temperatures rebound quickly into the 40s — and some spots may even push higher by the afternoon. Wednesday looks even warmer, with highs climbing into the mid 50s to near 60 in southern Kentucky under increasing clouds. While Tuesday stays mostly dry, the weather pattern becomes more active heading into late week, with the next better chance of rain arriving Thursday. Rain Chances Increase Late Week Another storm system is expected to move through the Ohio Valley on Thursday, bringing a more widespread chance of rain and possibly some heavier downpours at times. Forecast confidence is still coming together on exact timing and totals, but Thursday currently looks like the wettest day of the week. After that system moves out, drier and mild weather should return heading into Friday and Saturday. ABC 36 Storm Team 36-Hour Forecast Sunday Night: Snow showers gradually taper off, especially late.
