Team USA made history in men’s ice hockey on Sunday, striking gold in the Olympic event for the first time since 1980. The United States men’s hockey team defeated Canada in a 2-1 overtime win, scoring gold at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. They joined the women’s team in becoming champio ns at this year’s Olympics, who won gold earlier that week and back in 2018. More than 45 years in the making, the historic gold medal for the men’s team is being celebrated by many athletes across the sports world. Former football quarterback and Super Bowl champion Tom Brady named the hockey team as legends on X. Former football player and Super Bowl champion Jason Kelce called goalie Connor Hellebuyck ‘magical’. Hellebuyck blocked 41 out of 42 of Canada’s close shots during the game. Lindsey Vonn, American alpine ski racer who struck gold during the 2010 Winter games, also shouted out the hockey team on X.
