Parking Ban Takes Effect
Feb 22, 2026
A citywide parking ban began at 12 p.m. Sunday as the city braces for up to 20 inches of snow and wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour.
See below for a message sent out by Mayor Justin Elicker at 12:01 p.m. about the parking ban.
Hi, New Haven this is Mayor Justin Elicker with a reminder on
the Citywide Parking Ban.
The citywide parking ban has begun and will be in effect until lifted. In residential areas, there is no parking on the odd-numbered side of the streets. On all posted snow emergency routes and in the downtown area, there is no parking on both sides of the street. There is also no parking within 25 feet of a fire hydrant, intersection or bus stop. Parking enforcement officers are out now and will be ticketing and towing vehicles in advance of the storm. Please comply with the parking ban so that our crews and snowplows can clear the roads as quickly and effectively as possible.
If you are still in need of an off-street parking option, there are multiple free and low-cost options available, including selected school parking lots, Yale University parking lots and downtown parking garages. The full list is available on the city’s website at newhavenct.gov/snow.
Please stay safe and off the roads for the duration of the storm as we anticipate dangerous conditions especially overnight.
