Blizzard conditions possible in latest storm warning for PA, NJ; expected snow amounts increased

“A potentially historic winter storm will impact the region through Monday,” the National Weather Service said Sunday morning, Feb. 22, 2026.
The NWS upgraded its winter storm warnings to blizzard warnings for Bucks, Carbon, Delaware, Lower Montgomery, Monroe and Philadelphia counties in Penns
ylvania and Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Salem, Somerest, Sussex and warning counties in New Jersey. The winter storm warnings remain in effect until 6 p.m. Monday
The National Weather Service has increased the expected snow accumulations to 10 to 20 inches for most of the southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey counties in the Philadelphia region covered by the Mount Holly, N.J. weather office. The possibility of 18 to 25 inches in some areas also was included.
“Blizzard conditions will lead to life-threatening or impossible travel conditions,” the NWS describes conditions to be expected during its 6 a.m. briefing. “Snowfall rates of 2 inch or greater are possible. Widespread closures and impacts to infrastructure likely. Blowing and drifting snow will result in visibilities of ¼ mile or less. Winds gusting up to 60 mph.”
It includes areas along the Interstate 95 corridor, and all of New Jersey, Philadelphia metropolitan and suburban areas, Carbon and Monroe counties and Delaware.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation issued road restrictions Saturday afternoon:
Starting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Tier 1 road restrictions, which restrict some trucks and other vehicles, will be implemented on the following highways:
I-76 from Carlisle (Exit 226) to New JerseyI-78, entire lengthI-80 from I-81 to New JerseyI-81, entire lengthI-83, entire lengthI-84, entire lengthI-95, entire lengthI-276, entire lengthI-283, entire lengthI-295, entire lengthI-380, entire lengthI-476, entire lengthI-676, entire lengthRoute 33, entire lengthRoute 22 from I-78 to New Jersey
Under Tier 1 restrictions, the following vehicles are prohibited:
Tractors without trailers
Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers
Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers
Enclosed unloaded or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks/box trucks that meet the definition of a CMV
Passenger vehicles (cars, SUV’s, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers
Recreational vehicles/motorhomes
School buses, commercial buses and motor coaches
Motorcycles
Additional vehicle restrictions and reduced speed limits are expected as the storm progresses.
