At the Ken Mercer Sports Park in Pleasanton, Saturday night, dozens of people gathered and held candles at a tear-filled vigil. They were remembering Lori Simonds, 67, and her son Evan Simonds, 28, who went by James. Pleasanton Police said the two were found dead with gunshot wounds at a home on Joanne Circle in Pleasanton on Wednesday morning at around 10:00 a.m. The man suspected of killing them, 31-year-old Allen Swadley was arrested on Thursday in San Jose. San Jose Police said they pulled over Swadley because they got a notification from their automated license plate reader system. Swadley is now being held in the Santa Rita Jail without bail. Pleasanton Police said that Swadley recently dated a family member of the victims. At the vigil on Saturday, friends, classmates, and neighbors shared memories of Lori and James. “Lori’s house was always open to everybody,” one attendee shared. “They are great people and will forever be missed,” another said. People who knew James through his wrestling career in recent years attended the vigil as well. “James has been a very positive, amazing guy, always a very hard worker, he is very enthusiastic,” recalled Cindy “S.C.” Gonzalez, who said she attended the same pro wrestling school as James, and had seen him there the day before he was killed. Gonzalez said that James would often speak about his family. “They always spend time together, even when he does shows, his family was always in the audience to support,” she said. Loved ones at the vigil said that Lori’s daughter and James’s sister is now coping with this immense loss, they have started a GoFundMe to help her cover the cost of funeral expenses for her mother and brother. Pleasanton Police said they are still investigating the suspect’s motive in this shooting, as well as reports of a burglary and a car stolen from the home where the murders happened. ...read more read less
