6 of the 19 states Harris won in the 2024 election require voters to present identification.
36 states require voters to present ID before voting, of which two-thirds explicitly require photo identification. Twelve states, including Oklahoma, accept county election board voter
cards in addition to government-issued photo identification, and do not necessarily require photo identification. Fourteen states do not require any form of identification.
The Help America Vote Act requires those who register to vote by mail who have not previously voted in a federal election in their state to verify their name and address using either their driver’s license or several other accepted documents.
The House-introduced SAVE Act would require all voters to present documentary proof of citizenship in person, which would mean a passport or birth certificate for most, according to the Center for American Progress. An estimated 53% of the national population possesses a valid passport.
