Trenton Farmers Market reacted to public outcry over a comment on Facebook from its manager by parting ways with him. Bill Kearney, also well known in the Trenton online community as a founder of Trenton Orbit, a Facebook group where thousands of people from Trenton, around Trenton, and formerly of Trenton, gather online to talk about a wide variety of topic centered around the Capital City. The comment in question was on a post outside of Orbit, on a story posted by NJ101.5’s page. The story had three mugshots of Black men from Trenton who were arrested for burglary in Somerset County. Kearney’s reaction was “Happy BH month,” a sarcastic quip about the race of the accused burglars during February’s observance of Black History. Screenshot from a post on the NJ 101.5 facebook page. Kearney admitted his mistake in an interview with The Trentonian recently. “It was one of those reactions when you type without giving much thought. It was more out of anger and frustration. Looking at what I wrote, I see why people are upset,” Kearney said during a face-to-face Saturday morning. Kearney said he decided to leave his post as an administrator of Trenton Orbit. He intends to offer no other response. The Trenton Farmers Market posted on Facebook saying that it has parted ways with Kearney, without naming him. “The Board of Directors of the Trenton Farmers Market has made the decision to remove our most recent manager,” the public statement read, “after careful consideration of concerns raised by our community. “We are committed to moving forward with positive changes that support our farmers, vendors, and customers. This transition will be a productive step for the future of the market, and we appreciate your patience as these improvements take shape. “Thank you for your continued support and trust as we work together to strengthen our market.” Kearney is no longer an administrator on the Trenton Orbit Facebook page, with co-founder Mike Ranallo asking Kearney to remove his admin privileges on the group. ...read more read less
