Local fans roared with excitement on Thursday as Team USA’s women’s hockey team defeated Canada 2-1 to earn its third gold medal in the sport. The result was a delight to fans across the country, after Team USA trailed for the first two periods. At a watch party in Chappaqua, NY, fans celebr ated hometown hero and USA goalie Aerin Frankel. Nearly 100 people gathered at the Chappaqua Performing Arts Center to cheer on Team USA. “It’s really cool to see someone from my hometown playing,” Chappaqua resident Leif Maher said. “Yeah. Team USA. It’s great.” Frankel attended Chappaqua schools, including Horace Greeley High School. She excelled in hockey at Boston’s Northeastern University, where she was affectionately known as the “Green Monster”. Families voiced their pride in Frankel and her representation of the New York town. “Since my grandkids play ice hockey, that’s all they talk about,” Chappaqua resident Gail Kraljevic said. “They have the same coach that coached Aerin.
