A person was killed after sheriff’s deputies opened fire during a traffic stop in San Marcos on Wednesday night. Deputies with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a traffic stop at 9:03 p.m. at Twin Oaks Valley Road and Borden Road when, due to reasons unknown at this time, shots were fired about 10 to 15 minutes later, according to the SDSO. Deputies alerted people in San Marcos to avoid the area of Twin Oaks Valley and Borden roads. There is no danger to the community, SDSO wrote on X. Footage NBC 7 obtained from the scene showed several bullet holes pierced through the left side door of a red sedan and several law enforcement vehicles around the car. No deputies were injured during the incident, SDSO said. The San Diego Police Department took over the investigation of the shooting. The SDPD investigates shootings involving personnel with the SDSO under terms of a countywide agreement designed to prevent conflicts of interest.
