4 teens arrested for gun and drug possession after traffic stop
CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — Four teenagers were taken into custody early Wednesday morning after a traffic stop in Carmel led to the discovery of marijuana and several firearms, including a handgun modified into a fully automatic machin
e gun, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post.
The stop happened shortly after midnight Tuesday in the 9900 block of Keystone Parkway southbound. That’s just north of the Carmel-Indianapolis border.
A sheriff’s deputy initiated the stop after seeing a vehicle committing a traffic violation. Five teenagers were inside the vehicle, four of whom were juveniles. The investigation led to the arrest of four occupants, including three juveniles.
The post said the arrests resulted in multiple preliminary charges, including possession of a machine gun and three counts of dangerous possession of a firearm by a juvenile. Additional charges included a count of dealing marijuana and three counts of possession of marijuana.
Deputies recovered firearms equipped with high-capacity magazines. Investigators found 30-round magazines and a 50-round drum inside the vehicle. One of the pistols had been illegally modified with a “switch,” a device that converts a handgun into a fully automatic weapon. The post included photos of the firearms.
The post did not name any of the people in the vehicle, or say where they are from.
The post said the presence of firearms in the hands of juveniles is a serious concern for the community, and the traffic stop highlighted the dangerous situations deputies encounter while on patrol.
