INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A “violent fugitive” wanted for child molestation in Indianapolis was captured in Texas after fleeing to San Antonio, the FBI said in a news release issued Wednesday. 37-year-old Adan Sarmiento was arrested on Feb. 4 at a Motel 6 in south San Antonio. Police say the mo tel is located adjacent to a bus line that provides service to Mexico. The arrest was part of Operation No Escape, an FBI-led initiative to find and arrest violent fugitives, regardless of where they are wanted or where they attempt to flee. More than 100 officers were involved in the operation of arresting Sarmiento. FBI Indianapolis alerted the FBI in San Antonio of Sarmiento’s possible presence in the area and provided a description of the vehicle he was believed to be traveling in. The release wasn’t clear as to why FBI Indianapolis had reason to believe he was in San Antonio. Police searched his belongings and found two loaded pistol magazines, a cellphone, an electronic tablet, zip ties, a knife, a ski mask, lotion, narcotics, scissors, a Mexican passport, a camera remote, legal documents, and both U.S. and Mexican currency. The release says Sarmiento is charged in Marion County with four counts of child molesting. He was being held at Bexar County Jail in San Antonio on his outstanding warrant in Indiana and an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement immigration detainer, the FBI says. ...read more read less
