A storm system packing heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning hit the Bay Area on Tuesday, causing various problems. Here’s the latest storm-related issues: Power outages on the Peninsula Relentless rain and wind created a host of problems on the Peninsula, but PGE said it was lightning st rikes that turned out the lights for thousands. The utility said about 9,000 customers saw their power go out, including Stanford University and the College of San Mateo. CSM abruptly canceled classes for the day due to the outage. Flooding on I-580 in Oakland Flooding was reported in the far right lane of eastbound Interstate 580 near Grand Avenue in Oakland, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officials at Helen Lehman Elementary School, which is part of the Santa Rosa City Schools District, wrote on the school’s website that lightning struck a power pole outside of the campus.
