Hot House: FOUR Palmer Lamdin-Designed Houses Come on the Market. Various asking prices and square footage (see below). What: By now you know, if a Palmer Lamdin house comes on the market, I am probably going to write about it, even when the listing agent spells Lamdin’s name incorrectly ! PL are “my” architects in the Dead Architects Society. Unusually, there are four PL houses on the market right now, two in Guilford and two in Homeland. We will start with 4014 Greenway in Guilford. It is the grandest of the four houses, and the oldest. It is an elegant Italian Renaissance house with seven bedrooms, seven baths and just short of 7,000 square feet. 4014 Greenway in Guilford. Most fortunately, the house still retains many of its original details, including the charming jerkin-head garage, fronting on Highfield Road. Plus, this house has its own putting green! The house was briefly on the market in 2023 when I also wrote about it, but prior to that, it was last sold in 1994! Next up is 203 Highfield Road, also in Guilford. It has six bedrooms and five baths over 7,348 square feet. This brick house has steeply pitched rooflines, a signature of PL. 203 Highfield Road in Guilford. This house has been fully renovated, with little of the original detail remaining, except the beautiful sweeping staircase and built-in bookcases in the library. The house has a large bluestone patio, new kitchen and a new roof. 203 Highfield Road in Guilford. Moving to Homeland, we find 107 Upnor Road. This 1935 house has five bedrooms and five baths in 4,000 square feet. This house has sold five times since 2020. 107 Upnor Road in Homeland. It features several PL signatures, including steeply pitched rooflines, multiple levels, casement windows, stone details, and arched interior doorways. Outdoors there is a fenced rear yard, a large stone patio, a garden shed and a private parking pad. 107 Upnor Road in Homeland. Also in Homeland is 5211 Springlake Way. Built in 1934, in a style PL called “Charleston” it has its original whitewashed brick, with three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and 2,870 square feet. It also has five porches, two of which overlook the Homeland Lakes. 5211 Springlake Way in Homeland. There are many of the original details in this house, including the hardwood floors, the original kitchen which has been moved to the basement, French doors, wood trim and much more. It does need some updating, but it will take a special owner to keep its 1930’s features. 5211 Springlake Way in Homeland. Where: Homeland and Guilford are both on the northern side of Baltimore City and have easy access to schools, shopping and restaurants. Final Appraisal: Each of these four houses is special in its own way. Whether you’re looking for a grand mansion or a charming cottage overlooking the local lakes, you might find something that you like.
