John Perrine presser on two Beech Grove officers shot BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) — Two Beech Grove police officers on Monday were shot and taken to an Indianapolis hospital amid an ongoing search for an armed, wanted suspect in the shooting, an Indiana State Police spokesman said. Sgt. John P errine of the state police said Kenneth Terrell Johnson opened fire on the two officers as they responded to a disturbance in an apartment. State police issued a rare Blue Alert for Johnson. By state law, a Blue Alert transmits information to broadcasters and billboard operators about a suspect after a law enforcement officer is killed, seriously injured, or missing in the line of duty. The blue alert did not say where Johnson is from. Kynedi Grier, a spokesperson for Eskenazi Hospital, said two police officers were brought to the facility, but she did not have any additional information on their conditions. Dozens of police cars were gathered outside the emergency room at Eskenazi Hospital after the officers’ arrival there. Police were continuing at 7:45 p.m. Monday to search for Johnson, 47, Perrine said. Johnson, who is 6 feet tall and 165 pounds, was last seen wearing a blue hoodie or a blue head covering of some sort. Johnson was last seen northwest of Beech Grove High School. Anyone with information on his whereabouts was asked to call 911. Perrine was unsure whether police had any interactions with Johnson earlier Monday. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a social media post just before 6 p.m. Monday that Beech Grove residents should shelter in place and lock their doors, and report any suspicious activity to 911 immediately. As of 9 p.m. Monday, the shelter-in-place order remained. Perrine said “hundreds of officers” were on scene at 7:45 p.m. in the Beech Grove area, particularly Beech Grove High School. Also, other agencies were covering other police calls for Beech Grove police. Perrine also said a trove of technology was being used to find Johnson. Helicopters were visible in the sky. Perrine said shortly before 9 p.m. on social media that Beech Grove High School has been completely cleared by law enforcement. No students were in the building or on the grounds, and any students who were there are safe and have left. Beech Grove Police Department was called just after 5:35 p.m. Monday to a disturbance in the 100 block of Diplomat Court. That’s the Beech Meadow apartments located north of Beech Grove High School. About 10 minutes later, Beech Grove Fire Department’s medics were called to the same address on a report of an unsafe gunshot scene. IMPD also said Emerson Avenue was shut down from Churchman Ave all the way to I-465. Beech Grove is a Marion County city of 14,500 residents surrounded by Indianapolis. The last Blue Alert in Indiana was issued on Jan. 3, 2025, for Austin Schepers. He was wanted in connection with the shooting of an Orange County deputy in West Baden. Schepers was found and killed the next day during a confrontation with law enforcement in Louisville, Kentucky.  Kenneth Terrell Johnson (Provided Photo/Indiana State Police Blue Alert) Kenneth Terrell Johnson (Provided Photo/Indiana State Police) Beech Grove Police Department was called just after 5:35 p.m. Monday to a disturbance in the 100 block of Diplomat Court.
