Photos: Car struck by train in Emeryville early Saturday

(KRON) -- A car that became stuck on railway tracks in Emeryville overnight Saturday was struck by an oncoming train and burst into flames, according to the Emeryville Police Department. The driver was able to safely get out of the vehicle prior to the collision.
Emergency crews responded at 1:09 a
.m. to the intersection of Shellmound and 67th streets on the report of a train versus vehicle collision. The investigation determined that the driver accidentally pulled onto the railroad tracks and the car became stuck. Impairment of drugs or alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the incident.

“The railway was temporarily shut down for several hours to allow for emergency response, fire suppression, vehicle removal, and a full inspection of the tracks,” police said.
Authorities urge people to call 911 immediately if a vehicle becomes stuck on railroad tracks.
