Monday, Feb. 16 is Presidents Day. If you’re planning to tackle your taxes this weekend, you may be wondering if the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is open on Presidents Day, just in case you have questions or need assistance. Since Presidents Day is a federal holiday, most schools, financial institutions (including banks and the U.S. stock market), along with other businesses are closed in observance of the day. Is the IRS Open on Presidents Day 2026? There are 11 federal holidays each year in which government agencies and offices, including the United States Postal Service, are closed. Since the IRS is a government agency, offices will be closed on Presidents Day and federal workers have the day off. According to an IRS spokesperson, both IRS offices and phone lines will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16. The IRS will reopen during normal business hours on Tuesday, Feb. 17. That said, the two weeks after Presidents Day tend to be some of the busiest for the IRS helpline and callers can expect to wait on hold for up to 15 minutes or longer before reaching a tax assistant.
