(KRON) — A man is in custody for attempted following an extensive manhunt in San Mateo County Saturday morning, which involved the temporary closure of Highway 1 and the issuing of a shelter in place order by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
"The suspect was taken into custody without incid
ent and the shelter in place has been lifted," the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office told KRON4 News. "... The Sheriff's Office would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation while we worked to safely take the suspect into custody."
The suspect, 24-year-old Arsenio Gonzalez-Sian of Redwood City, was wanted for allegedly stabbing a man in the area of Bean Hollow Road and Pescadero Creek Road in Pescadero at about 1 a.m. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and is currently in stable condition, the sheriff's office said.
"Through the course of the investigation, deputies learned a group of known individuals drove to the coast, when a disturbance occurred inside the vehicle," the sheriff's office said. "A witness told deputies that during the disturbance, the suspect stabbed the victim, before fleeing the area on foot."
While the search was ongoing, deputies were called to a reported carjacking near the location of the stabbing, prompting the closure of Highway 1 between Bean Hollow State Beach and the 9800 block of Cabrillo Highway, and the issuing of a shelter in place order.
"No weapon was used in the carjacking and no injuries were reported," the sheriff's office said. "The vehicle was quickly located by deputies and the suspect again fled on foot into a heavily wooded area."
