Feb. 13, 2026: As of Wednesday (Feb. 11, 2026), the South Dakota Department of Health says 14 people in the state have died from influenza this season. That includes four new deaths over the past week, including two from Hughes County. Minnehaha County has seen the most flu deaths with six, followed by Lincoln and Hughes counties with two apiece, and one each in the counties of Brown, Fall River, Marshall and Meade. In the past seven days, South Dakota has had 1431 new positive cases of influenza and 45 new hospitalizations. The state Department of Health Influenza Dashboard says there has now been a total of 10,795 cases, 609 hospitalizations and 14 deaths reported this flu season. It says the flu is widespread and flu activity is moderate. South Dakota has now reported a total of 6,639 cases, with 409 hospitalizations and 6 deaths.
