LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A man accused in a deadly crash on Interstate 75 has been returned to Kentucky and is now facing charges in Laurel County, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say Steven Jones, 54, of Xenia, Ohio, was brought back to Laurel County on Thursday. He’s being held in the Laurel County Correctional Center. Jones is charged with vehicular homicide under the influence of drugs. According to the sheriff’s office, the charge stems from a two-vehicle crash investigation on Interstate 75 southbound near mile marker 46 earlier this year. Investigators say the incident happened January 13 around 2:57 a.m., when a Nissan Altima collided with a stationary tractor-trailer that was reportedly stopped in a travel lane. Authorities say William Darnell of Corbin died as a result of the crash. The sheriff’s office says Jones was arrested February 4 by the U.S. Marshals Service in Xenia, Ohio, before being extradited back to Kentucky. The investigation remains ongoing.
