Life has many gray areas, but somethings are black and white. Soup or salad, Republican or Democrat, coffee or tea. For most people, it’s one or the other. And, in South Philadelphia, the stationary culinary battleships of Pat’s King of Steaks and Geno’s Steaks have stared across Passy unk Ave. for years, forcing a passionate, and hungry, audiance to opt for one side of the street or the other. And soon, a similar battle may unfold in Limerick Township in Montgomery County as, on Thursday, Sheetz will open a new store along West Ridge Pike, directly across the street from a rival Wawa shop. Just who might win out in this convenience store clash remains to be seen as Wawa, headquartered in Media, most definitely has its local, die-hard defenders. But, across western Pennsylvania, the Altoona-based Sheetz has it’s own devoted crowd, as well. According to a American Customer Satisfaction Index convenience store study from October of last year, the two companies are neck-and-neck when it comes to customer satisfaction. And, when it comes to how many stores each company has in Pennsylvania, Sheetz is the clear winner with over 300 shops. Wawa trails with about 280 stores across the state. In the end, it will be up to the public to decide who wins in this battle of the brands. And they’ll get a chance to try both shortly as the Sheetz store, located along the 400 block of West Ridge Pike in Limerick, is set to open at 8 a.m. on Thursday.
