A legendary moment in Texas Rangers history will transform into a gory giveaway this spring. On Sept. 8, 1990, Nolan Ryan pitched seven scoreless innings with blood dripping down his jersey. The future Hall of Fame pitcher attempted to field a one-hopper off the bat of slugger Bo Jackson. Howe ver, the baseball bounced off his glove and into his face before he threw Jackson out at first. Ryan, with his bloodied jersey, continued pitching and got six stitches after the game. On May 29, 2026, when the Rangers face the Royals at Globe Life Field, they’ll revisit the moment. All fans who attend will receive a replica blood-stained Ryan throwback jersey. Chuck Morgan, the Rangers’ executive vice president of ballpark entertainment, promotions and production, acknowledged that fans have repeatedly inquired about a Ryan bloody-lip-themed giveaway and said now feels like the right time. “This would rank pretty high [in a list of Nolan giveaways],” Morgan said in a statement. “You can go almost to any sports bar in the country and see a picture of that hanging on the wall. It’s just an iconic moment.” In addition to the Ryan Bloody Lip jersey, Ryan will be featured in a bobblehead on July 20. It’ll honor his infamous brawl with Robin Ventura on Aug. 4, 1993, where Ventura charged the mound after Ryan drilled the White Sox third baseman with a pitch in the third inning.
