An East Bay community is rallying behind the owners of a popular neighborhood restaurant that went up in flames just hours after serving up football food on Super Bowl Sunday. The fire at Slow Hand BBQ in Pleasant Hill apparently started in the smoker Sunday night and rekindled Monday morning. The restaurant is a complete loss – 13 years of hard work and love destroyed. Slow Hand BBQ co-owner Maureen Bullota and her brother have a second location in Martinez that they’re shifting their entire operation to as they figure out what’s next. Bullota said keeping the staff employed is what they’re worried about most. “These people are the heart and soul of what we do, and I just see their faces,” she said. Concerned customers rallying behind the business said they’ll start visiting the Martinez location until the Pleasant Hill spot can be rebuilt. “Their food is amazing, just great quality, so flavorful,” customer Yvette Brown said. “We love their music here. We’re just heartbroken that they lost their business.” Bullota said she’s not sure how long it will take to rebuild.
