Three minors have been arrested after police said they shot at a witness as they attempted to steal a vehicle in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County. According to the Upper Merion Township Police Department, on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, around 9:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 600 bloc k of South Gulph Court, within the Kingswood Apartment Complex, after receiving a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they spoke with a witness who reported receiving a motion-activation alert on their Ring camera, which was positioned to monitor the parking lot. When the witness looked outside, they saw two individuals standing next to their vehicle, police said. One of them was attempting to break into the driver’s side door. Police said the witness reportedly yelled at the suspects to get away from the car. At that time, one of the suspects took out a handgun and fired two shots in the direction of the apartment building where the witness was. As soon as the shots were fired, police said the suspects then jumped into a waiting Jeep Cherokee and fled the area. “They were trying to steal my guy’s car. I was just parked right there. He went to open the window. They shot it at least three times,” the witness told NBC10. Shortly after police arrived, neighbors reported that it was a stressful night for families in the area. “They were freaking out a little bit. I tried to play it off like it’s probably nothing, but then 30 minutes later, six or seven cops showed up,” Naudir Mahmoudzaeeh, a neighbor, shared. Officers at the scene found two spent shell casings from a handgun in the parking lot near the witness’ vehicle. No one was injured during the shooting.  Police said the vehicle that the suspects fled in had been reported stolen from Upper Darby a few days earlier. Thirty minutes after the incident, police said an Upper Darby Police officer spotted the Cherokee and attempted to stop it. The Cherokee disregarded the officer’s commands to stop and continued to flee into Philadelphia, police said. Philadelphia police then found the fleeing Jeep and pursued it before the vehicle crashed, according to police. Three individuals, all minors, jumped from the vehicle and ran away before being quickly apprehended by Philadelphia officers, police said. Police said the suspects had three handguns, numerous tools used to break into vehicles, ski masks and latex gloves. Officers also found a professional key tooling programming device, which vehicle thieves use to program aftermarket key fobs to mimic the vehicle’s real key fob. One of the handguns found with the suspects had been reported stolen previously and another had been reported lost by its owner, according to police. Police said two of the suspects are from Upper Darby and the third suspect is from Glenolden, Pennsylvania. All three were taken to Montgomery County Youth Detention Center to wait for further court proceedings. Their bail was set at $250,000.
