A Coatesville couple have been found guilty of murder after, officials said, they allowed their 8-year-old son to die of an overdose on fentanyl on July 26, 2023. Law enforcement officials in Chester County announced, on Tuesday, that following a six-day trial, a jury found Mousa Hawa, 43, and Ho lly Back, 42, guilty on all charges, including murder, after they were arrested and charged in the death of their 8-year-old son. Investigators said that, at the time of the boy’s death, drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in the area of the boy’s body. Also, officials said, both Back and Hawa were found to have ingested heroin, cocaine and fentanyl in the hours before the boy died. A test of the boy’s hair found that he had been exposed to fentanyl at least one previous time prior to his death. At the time the boy died, his parents had access to Narcan, a drug that can reverse the effects of a drug overdose, on hand and in the same room with the child, but did not take necessary steps to save him. “These parents exposed their child to fentanyl and other drugs knowing that it was dangerous,” Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe said in a statement. Also, officials said that the boy’s parents called these illegal drugs “medicine” at the home and told the boy that he was not allowed to touch the drugs unless they gave him the “medicine” themselves. Both Hawa and Beck remain in police custody as they await a sentencing hearing following their convictions. ...read more read less
