Gov. Shapiro and neighbor file lawsuits against each other over land dispute

A neighbor of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro’s private residence in Abington, Montgomery County, is accusing the governor of unlawfully taking over part of their property, according to court documents. And, Shapiro has countersued his neighbor claiming that he owns the land being disputed.
The lawsuit brought by Shapiro’s neighbors, Jeremy and Simone Mock, states that Shapiro initially sought to purchase or lease a part of the property owned by his neighbors that ran adjacent to his property in order to build a fence. But after negotiations between Shapiro and the Mocks fell through, the governor claimed ownership of the property he had sought to purchase.
The Mocks claim that Shapiro then began treating their property as his own by planting trees and having State Troopers patrol there.
The Mocks are claiming that Shapiro violated their constitutional rights and are seeking access to their property as well as other damages, according to the lawsuit.
However, Shapiro countersued the Mocks on Monday and said the Mocks never had ownership of the land in dispute and that Shapiro owns the land because he has maintained it for two decades.
In a statement to NBC10, Shapiro’s spokesperson, Will Simons, said, “The Governor looks forward to a swift resolution and will not be bullied by anyone trying to score cheap political points, especially at the expense of his family’s safety and wellbeing.”
Shapiro’s personal home in Abington became the target of state Republican lawmakers in 2025 after they questioned the cost of security upgrades to the home, which were government funded after an attempted assassination at the Governor’s Mansion in Harrisburg while Shapiro and his family slept.
