A local business owner is celebrating Black History Month with decades of service, not just in business, but in the community. Hiawatha Williams founded Williams Chicken in Dallas back in 1987. The first drive-through location was on Sunnyvale at Ledbetter. The chain has since grown to 40 locatio ns across North Texas. On Saturday, February 7, William and his wife, Doris, were honored at the UNCF Dallas Mayor’s Masked Ball for their work in the community. The MASKED (Mankind Assisting Students Kindling Educational Dreams) Award honorees included Arca Continental Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, and Lynn McBee, president and CEO of the Young Women’s Preparatory Network. The Williams Chicken Partners in Education is known for its year-round work with local students, helping with academic growth and encouraging personal success.
